Alex has become quite busy over the past few weeks. Not only is he playing competition soccer with LaRoca, he is running track for Orion Junior High.
He started LaRoca last August and when the season was finished they played indoor soccer. During one of the indoor soccer games he got hit really hard in the hip by another player. He kept complaining that it hurt but when I offered to take him to the doctor he said it wasn't bothering him anymore.
Well, then he comes home from track practice last week and said that someone ran into him and his hip hurts again. He seemed to be doing okay and didn't say anymore about it so we all thought he was doing fine. I know, you are wondering, "Where is she going with this story?" Don't fear my friends, I do have a point. Please keep reading.
Alex had a track meet Friday at Fremont. He is a sprinter and he was all ready to kick some tail at the meet. I wasn't able to go, but my mom and dad were there to cheer him on. I texted Dad to see how he did and he said that Alex came in 4th or 5th but he looked like his hip hurt. Two minutes after that, I get a phone call from Alex saying that he needs to go to the doctor.
Here is the scoop on the race. He was running the sprint and was in first place and all of a sudden he got a sharp pain in his hip and felt a pop. He finished running the race in pain and when he got to the finish line, he fell onto the grass in a heap. The coach picked him up and took him to the benches and sat him down. When he got to the benches, girls surrounded him to make sure he was okay. (What a stud!) He stayed thru the rest of the meet and when I got home from work, we went to the doctor.
Alex has strained a tendon in his hip. This tendon extends from the top of his hip (the iliac arch) to the front of his thigh. The tendon helps the thigh muscle pull the leg up so that you can run or walk. He is out of commission for at least 10 days. No running and no soccer. The boy is going to go crazy.
After 10 days we have to go back to the doctor for a follow-up. If Alex is completely pain free and can pass the doctors tests, he can run and play soccer again. If he fails the tests, he will have to start physical therapy.
I guess it goes to show that no matter how young or in shape you are, you have to be careful with your body. I do have to say that I am very proud of Alex. Even though he was in a tremendous amount of pain, he finished his race in 12 seconds and finished 5th.
